Pachai kili Muthusaram Review

Hats-off to Gautham Menon for taking this kind of a movie in Tamil though the plot and some scenes are taken(stolen?!) from the Hollywood movie Derailed which was based on a novel.

Arvind Krishna is an apt choice as he recreated Pudhupettai magic all again. Most of the film scenes were shooted at a very dim light. Picturisation of songs are also very good.

Harris Jayaraj again screwed up the BGM by inserting weird sounds/voices where silence would have been the best treatment. I thought of very high about this guy after Khakka Khakka. But I changed my views after his string of stupid scores in Ghajini, Anniyan and Vettaiyadu Vilayadu. The only positive thing about him is song compositions are generally good and most of them are big hits.

Decent performance by the all the actors.

Overall this is a very good movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

Unusual Injuries

“…

Sidelined after breaking a finger at the start of the 2006-07 season, Hayden decided to keep fit by going for a leisurely jog. Unfortunately, while running he was set on by a local dog and had to be taken to hospital with a 5cm gash in his ankle. “It was a vicious attack,” he said. “I was just out for a leisurely run. You are always a bit shocked by that sort of thing, but I was more disappointed than anything. It just hasn’t been my week.”

Here is XI instances where players found bizarre ways of sidelining themselves. Good collection by the Cricinfo XI columnist Martin Williamson.

The ‘Guru’ talks

Maniratnam talks about shooting songs, the importance of entertainment, and what makes him angry.

“…
Do the reactions of people really matter to you?
Does it hurt you when people do not accept your film?
When you create a film, do you think of the audience? Or do you look at it purely as a means of self-expression?
What is more important, the content or the format?

Business Ethics

A father is explaining ethics to his son, who is about to go into business.

“Suppose a woman comes in and orders a hundred dollars worth of material. You wrap it up, and you give it to her. She pays you with a $100 bill. But as she goes out the door you realize she’s given you two $100 bills. Now, here’s where the ethics come in: should you or should you not tell your partner?”

(Mis)using Technology

Another classic case. This time it is an Indian Chess player who I feel has done it in style, even if it was cheating. He was caught and banned for ten years. Here is the link

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

If you are a person who depends on web forums a great deal for your technical queries, then this link is for you. It tells a lot on how to ask questions in a way more likely to get you a satisfactory answer.

Here is a sample
“…
Stupid: Where can I find out stuff about the Foonly Flurbamatic?
This question just begs for ‘STFW‘ as a reply.

Smart: I used Google to try to find “Foonly Flurbamatic 2600” on the Web, but I got no useful hits. Can I get a pointer to programming information on this device?
This one has already STFWed, and sounds like he might have a real problem.
…”
It also has some tips on how to interpret answers. Lengthy one, but worth a read.
